The two leaders meet on the sidelines of the Beijing-led Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Uzbekistan
Chinese President Xi Jinping met Russian leader Vladimir Putin on Thursday in Uzbekistan for their first in-person talks since they declared in February – before the invasion of Ukraine – that their countries enjoyed a “no-limits” friendship.
The meeting was on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in the city of Samarkand in Uzbekistan, Chinese and Russian media reported.
“In the face of a changing world, changing times and historic changes, China is willing to work with Russia to demonstrate the responsibilities of big powers and lead, to instil stability and positive energy in a world of chaos,” Xi said, according to footage aired by Russian media.
